  • They don’t look Christian. Just because they SAY they are a Christian band doesn’t mean they ARE. They look creepy and they don’t look Christian at all. Not that I’m judging on appearances really… but the way someone dresses can tell a lot about them.

  • Well Neil that goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover. They were just signed by TOOTH & NAIL RECORDS (a Christian label) who only sign artists who spread the word of God through their music.

    • Frankie, but what if they are being used by satan? (I’m not saying they are for SURE, I just want you to think about how not everything is how it seems.)

Of course, I could be wrong about this band. But Christian rock never seemed Christian to me. Some, maybe, but not all. Just keep your eyes open, because satan uses music to get to the youth.

      🙂

  • I think that you are biased Neil, and you already made up your mind about this band (and others that look like them) because because they may ‘dress’ differently then you. I know the devil is a very crafty person who deceives and tricks our youth in many ways, but trust me they are true Christians and aren’t being used by Satan.

  • Could you give me some links about them? I haven’t been able to find anything about them. I’d trust you, but there has been a lot of “Christian” bands who have turned out to be VERY far from God. (And I can name some, if you want me to.)

Perhaps I am biased. I don’t listen to much Christian rock (Because rock is rock. Said rock star David Bowie, “Rock has always been THE DEVILS MUSIC.”). But their way of dressing does make me suspicious of them, since there is a lot of Scripture about not dressing ridiculously. Here is a link to a site I found that talks a little about it: http://www.unlessthelordmagazine.com/articles/Clothing%20and%20Modesty.htm
(Just read to the “Applications/Opposing Arguments” line)

I don’t believe “Christian Rock” will ever amount to anything truly good. Maybe I would believe that “Icon for Hire” is trying to bring others to Jesus if they dressed like it. But they look like any unchristian band out there. What’s up with that?

    God Bless! 🙂

  • Neil, I have to warn you in advance this is going to be a long reply so I apologize for that. lol

First off, I am trying to remember who you are and it is slipping my memory. I assume that you have been on an Antioch retreat before(most likely in Deland or Tallahassee). If you have been then I am sure we have met, because I have worked every retreat in FL. I am sorry if we have met and I forgot you 🙂

Secondly, you asked for more information about the band. Here are a few links:
    https://www.facebook.com/iconforhireofficial?sk=wall
    http://www.toothandnail.com/artists/289/Icon_For_Hire/bio/
    http://www.myspace.com/iconforhire
(What is Tooth and Nail Records?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tooth_%26_Nail_Records

I will let you read those and make your own opinion about the band, because I believe this conversation is not about Icon for Hire as much as it is about the entire genre of Christian Rock.

Third, I read what you said about dressing modestly and I actually agree with you. But as you are aware most of today’s youth would fail a “dress code” if there was one to get into heaven. lol

I believe that Timothy and Peter were referring to the prostitutes and women dressing to seduce men more than some kids in a band dying their hair pink because they want to express their individuality.

Finally, I believe that it is not the type of music that defines if a song is Christian, but the message that the song conveys.
As Frank Breeden, president of the Gospel Music Association stated, “There really is no such things as a Christian B-flat. Music in itself is an amoral vehicle.”
