Why do Catholics Honor Mary – Video of the Week

As Catholics around the world know, Mary holds a special place in our faith. But have you ever stopped to think about why we honor her so much?

According to tradition, Jesus gave Mary to his followers as a gift just before he died on the cross. In doing so, he not only saved us as individuals, but also as a family. Mary’s willingness to say “yes” to life, even when it risked her own reputation and life, and her presence at the foot of the cross, demonstrate her commitment to her faith and her son.

In recognition of her role in our faith, Mary has been given a number of titles, including “Ark of the New Covenant,” “Star of the Sea,” and “Mother of God.” But perhaps the most honorable title she holds is “Mother,” as she is not only the mother of Jesus, but also the mother of the Church.

So why do we honor Mary so much? Simply put, she is our mother. And no matter how hard we try, it is impossible for us to honor her as much as her son did. She is a symbol of the love and devotion that we should strive to emulate in our own lives.
